More to say? Yes - today Liz's student physio, K, showed us how Liz is developing strength in the top of her left leg. The physios also felt they saw a delayed twitch in her left thumb. All good news.
Today Liz had a shower for the first time in 5 weeks. She went in a plastic wheelchair. E, her nurse, gave her a double french plat.
Mary, a pastor at our church visited, as did Tom and Philippa. Tom brought some music, and kindly left Liz with his glockenspiel to experiment with. (He was thinking of instruments that can be played with one hand.)
In the evening we started our new story "The Tenderness of Wolves."

Music- such a therapy!! Bravo ( pets too, haha) . Great news all round. I’m beginning to think the nursing community is even more talented than originally thought. Spa and salon services definitely make one feel better!
ReplyDeleteIts so wonderful to read of each little glimmer of progress, even a barely detectable twitch. I really believe that a massive amount of repair and strengthening can be done without any physically visible movement. By visualising movement or actually the stage before that of visualising that you’re going to make a movement, the connections are made (or begin to repair ) between brain and muscle and the muscle begins to contract way before any active movement such as bending or lifting etc takes place. I read of a guy paralysed by a light aircraft crash, able only to blink, told that he would never walk again, but determined to walk out of the hospital “by Christmas” - he visualised movement for weeks and weeks. Long story short, he achieved his goal and was seen as a walking miracle. So Elizabeth, your Physio work can be done whether your physios are with you or not! (If you’re wondering where my interest & views come from, I am a Pilates teacher).
ReplyDeleteOnce again, you’re all an inspiration.
Great news about the shower, Liz you were probably tired after that but good news about new movement and the arrival of the glockenspiel. How much sound is allowed on this ward??? Glad it's all good news. Carry on trying new things Liz... The opportunity for something new to happen is there each day. Praying for you, with love from Pennyb
